While there is no mandatory evacuation in place for Holmes County, residents who are living in mobile homes or unsound structures are strongly urged to seek shelter.
Hurricane Michael will likely make landfall in the Panhandle as a Category 3 storm, and the high winds and other local impacts will impede the efforts of emergency responders should you have an emergency.
Shelters are open now:
▪️The general population shelter is located at New Hope Volunteer Fire Department, 1969 Highway 2, Westville.
▪️A Special Needs Shelter/General Population and pet-friendly shelter is located at Poplar Springs School, 3726 Atomic Drive, Graceville.
▪️The City of Ponce de Leon is also open as a non-hurricane certified shelter for general population at the old gym located on Ponce de Leon Springs Road.
Those needing transportation to these local shelters can contact Holmes County Sheriff’s Office or Emergency Management for assistance by calling 850-547-3681 (Option 1).
Holmes County Emergency Management reminds the public that these shelters are for safety rather than comfort. Those seeking public shelter should bring bedding, snack, and medications.
