James Lomax Crowell, Jr.

Mr. James Lomax Crowell, Jr. (81) of Samson, AL passed away January 2, 2019, in Wiregrass Medical Center of Geneva. Mr. Crowell, known to many as “Mr. Jimbo,” was born to James Lomax Crowell, Sr. and Grace Elizabeth Chancey Crowell on January 28, 1937.  

Mr. Crowell proudly served on the Samson Banking Company Board of Directors until his death. He retired from a lengthy career with the Samson Banking Company.

Mr. Crowell is preceded in death by his parents, Lomax and Grace Crowell, and brothers, Charles William Crowell and Jon Page Crowell. He is survived by his wife, Dora Louise Parker Crowell; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Crowell Nelson and Kenneth A Nelson of Dozier; grandchildren, Sam Bailey (Jamie) of Cartersville, GA; Lauren Sutley of Montgomery, Leanna Leverett (Ryan) of Glenwood, Lance Sutley (Kitty) of Chancellor, and Matt Nelson of Elba; and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Robert Bascom Crowell of FL and a sister, Libba Crowell Campbell (Spencer) of NM.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 5, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Samson with Rev. John D. Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Travelers Rest Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Travelers Rest Cemetery Fund or Baptist Children’s Home.

Serving as pallbearers; Sam Bailey, Lance Sutley, Matt Nelson, Ryan Leverett, Jeff Baxter and John Jenkins.
