William Hanford Knotts

Mr. William Hanford Knotts (known to many as Bill or Pop Bill), age 86, of Opp, died Monday, December 31, in Mizell Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Manheim, WV on July 5, 1932 to his late parents, Nellie and Everett Knotts. He grew up in the town of Grafton as one of 11 siblings.

William met the love of his life, Emma Gean Knotts, at a carnival in Ft. Walton Beach, FL while he was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base. They married in Crestview, FL on July 9, 1952 and began growing their family. He served our country for over 40 years in the Air Force and worked for the Department of Defense. During this time he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.

He loved spending time with family and traveling the country with Emma. While at home he spent his time gardening and watching the birds & butterflies.

William is survived by his son, William L. Knotts; daughters, Carol A. Ambrose, Debra J. Chassey and Rebecca L. Knotts; grandchildren, Kerry, Brad, Erik, Paul and Tina; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Emma Gean (Richburg) Knotts.

A visitation will be held at Wyatt Funeral Home from 4 until 5:30 pm on Thursday, January 10, 2019 with burial following at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. He will be laid to rest with his loving wife of 66 years.
