Hubert Hendrix

Mr. Hubert Hendrix 84 of Bonifay, FL passed away Monday July 13 in his home following a battle with lung cancer. Born on May 13, 1936 in Geneva County, AL, he was the son of the late Joseph Eli Hendrix and Alma Gertrude Chapman Hendrix. Mr. Hendrix is survived by his wife Virginia Forehand Hendrix, son Jackie Hendrix and daughters Kathie Vaughan, Barbie Whitehurst and Ginga Palmer all of Bonifay, FL; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grand children.
Hubert Hendrix began a career as a barber in 1952, a skill he employed for his entire life.  He also worked as an air craft mechanic for various contractors a Ft Rucker, AL and was a member of the International Association of Machinist Union for over 30 years where he served as District Lodge 75 Delegate and Trustee. While working as an air craft mechanic Hubert picked up numerous part time jobs like substitute mail carrier and poultry farmer.
Hubert strongly believed in giving back to his community so this lead him into local politics. He served 16 years as a Holmes County School Board member with 4 years as Chairman and 6 years as District Director of the Florida State School Board Association. He also served on multiple committees and was instrumental in bringing new schools and educational facilities to Holmes County. Hubert was a member of the Holmes County Development Committee and volunteered with various other social and political action committees on the state and local levels. After retiring as an air craft mechanic Hubert worked more than 10 years for the Holmes County Roads Department as a supervisor before going back to his first career as a barber at Bass Beauty Shop in De Funiak Springs, FL.
Even though Huber worked extra jobs as a young man he still found time to raise his kids and to make great memories with his grand kids and great grand kids. The family would like to thank all the Covenant Hospice staff for their care and compassion at this difficult time.
Hubert Hendrix’s funeral was held on July 15 at Bethlehem Methodist Church with Rev Mitch Johnson and Rev Gary Armstrong officiating. Music was performed by Neal Reeves and Lydia Palmer. Elegy was given by Jonce Palmer. Interment was at Bethlehem Methodist Church with Sims Funeral Home.
