Mildred Smith Merritt

Mildred Smith Merritt went to sleep on earth and awakened in Heaven on Sunday, March 14, 2021. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was 98 years old and loved by many.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Teddy Ward officiating. Royce Reagan delivered the eulogy. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Geneva with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday before the service.

Mildred was born in Slocomb, Alabama on September 11, 1922 to Byron and Ethel Strickland Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, David Merritt; her daughter, Gayle Snuggs, Son, Eueal Merritt, son-in-law, Thomas (Mort) Snuggs, two sisters, Kate Blackwelder and Sarah Kent.

Mildred is survived by one son, Dickey Merritt; daughter-in-law, Huberta Meritt; grandchildren, Melynda Caffarelli, Starla Smith, Sherrill Snuggs, Stewart Snuggs, Dallas Merritt, Tiffany Merritt, Laura Tucker, Dashton Merritt, Erin Wood, Rhea McGinnas, and Ramona Theriot; 15 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; three sisters, Nell Johnston (age 100), Jean Rodgers (age 91), and Lee Waters (age 90), numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by many.
