Jeff Newton Commander of Westville, FL passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 59 years old.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Daniel Smith and Rev. Chad Bass officiating. Burial followed in the Poplar Head Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 7, 2021.
Mr. Commander was born in Enterprise, AL on December 22, 1961. Jeff was employed at the Walton County bus barn for the past 16 years and was widely known to family and friends as everybody’s “Go to Man”. He was an accomplished mechanic and enjoyed refurbishing his 1971 pickup truck, being in the outdoors, farming, gardening, and raising cattle. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. He also loved taking family and friends to the lake and pulling them on tubes. Jeff liked to fish, but he really enjoyed frying up his catch for family and friends to enjoy.
He is preceded in death by his father, Carlton Commander.
He is survived by his wife, Terry Griffin Commander of Westville, FL; one son, Joshua Jackson (Tiffany) of Clovis, NM; one daughter, Delilah Babb (Joshua) of Hartford, AL; grandchildren, LilyAnn Bristol Jackson, Charleigh Babb, Adeline Babb, Briggs “Billy Bob” Babb; mother, Jeneice McKinnon of Westville, FL; two brothers, Jack Commander (Kerry) of Westville, FL, and John Commander (Kim) of Hartford, AL; one sister, Betty McGowan (Jimmy) of Gainesville, GA; two very special friends, Jeff Baker and Reno Smith; and many special nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Serving as active pallbearers were: Jeff Baker, Tyler Commander, Seth Commander, Bernie Halderman, Keith Gentry, and Eric Owens.
Serving as honorary pallbearers: Reno Smith, David Griffin, Zeke Griffin, Luke Griffin, and Billy Griffin.
