Update: A two-vehicle crash at approximately 7:19 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, involving a commercial vehicle has claimed the life of a Covington County woman. Ashley Deborah Lord, 32, of Opp was driving a 2006 Honda CR-V traveling south on U.S. 331. The crash occurred when a 2017 Great Dane traveling north crossed the center line into the southbound lane. As a result, the Great Dane collided head-on with the Honda. Lord was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash occurred three miles south of Opp City limits.
US Hwy 331 near Onycha Volunteer Fire Department / Adams Pond Road was shut down for several hours on Tuesday morning, due to a traffic fatality from a head on collision, involving an 2017 Great Dane.
Traffic was being diverted down Adams Pond Road, Indian Creek Road and Edgar Farm Road, while while Alabama State Troopers mapped the scene and first responders took on the task of cleaning up after another yet another fatality for the Opp community. This makes seven accidents to end tragically for the county in the past month.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
