Richard E. Stiver

Richard E. Stiver, age 74, of Hillsdale and formerly of Hartford, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.  He was born October 19, 1946, in Cadillac, Michigan to Edwin and Helen (Fisher) Stiver.  Richard married Debra Putnam on June 30, 1972, and she survives.

Richard graduated from Hillsdale Schools, and he worked as a utility trailer welder.  He served his country in the United States Army and was honored as a purple heart recipient.  Richard was a member of the Pittsford Wesleyan Church.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and lending a hand to those in need.  Richard also was a talented craftsman and handyman.

In addition to his wife of nearly 50 years, Debra Stiver, Richard is survived by two children, Dawn (Stacy) Wilks of Pittsford and Richard (Debbie) Stiver of Mason; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two siblings, Marilynn (Gene) Baker of Hillsdale and William (Robyn) Stiver of Manitou Beach.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Brittany Stiver, and four siblings, Sharon McCarther, Shirley Curtis, Beverly Stiver, and Michael Stiver.

Funeral services for Richard Stiver will be held Sunday, September 19, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at Pittsford Wesleyan Church with Pastor Doug Plunkett officiating.  The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.  Arrangements are entrusted to VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
