Robert Stevens “Bob” Lawton

Robert Stevens “Bob” Lawton of Hartford, Alabama departed this life on August 27, 2022, and is now in God’s care. Bob was born on July 30, 1931, in Hawthorne, New Jersey to Frank Clyde and Gladys A. Cooper Lawton.

Bob received his bachelors degree in animal husbandry from Rutgers University. The avid outdoorsman loved regaling fisherman’s tales such as the time he caught a state-record black drum on the New Jersey coastline. Bob’s green thumb was well known among his peers, and he was often sought out for advice on gardening and help identifying plants.

A jack of all trades, Bob wore many hats in his lifetime such as soldier, welder, plumber, rancher, farmer, and realtor, but Bob’s favorite roles were those of husband, father, and grandfather.

He was a faithful member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Over the decades, Bob served the church in countless ways including as a choir member and resident handyman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife June Ann Lawton, sister Alice Cole, and brother Frank Lawton.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife Loretta H. Lawton, his sons Steve (Tammy), Jack (Lisa), and Bill (Misty), stepdaughter Bridgette Arnold (Andy), and sister Ann Hovan (Joe). He is also survived by his grandchildren Stacey Cooper-Lawton (Katie), Stan Lawton (Candace), Jacquelyn Lawton, John Cooper Lawton (Grace Marie), Will Lawton, and Laura Ann Lawton and great-grandchildren Owen and Oliver Lawton, Ellis Cooper-Lawton, and Judah Cooper Lawton.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 PM Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Wesley Chapel (4844 County Road 41, Hartford, AL 38644) followed by a funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
