Slocomb Halloween party turns violent

Geneva County Sheriff’s Department arrested an 18-year-old Michael Harrison Barrett in connection with a stabbing at a Halloween party, Monday evening. The stabbing was reportedly prompted by a Ku Klux Klan costume worn by Barrett.

Barrett is a senior at Slocomb High School and has been charged with first-degree assault.

According to witnesses at the party, there were a few hundred people with some as young as 14 present. Barrett arrived, reportedly wearing a KKK outfit. A male approached Barrett, telling him the costume was offensive and that he should take it off. In the ensuing fight, Barrett reportedly stabbed the male in the side with a knife.

The party dispersed after first responders arrived.

The victim was taken to a Dothan hospital and is in stable condition after surgery.

Barrett was booked into the Geneva County Jail, charged with first-degree assault.

This is an ongoing investigation and GCSO is looking for any video documenting the incident.

More arrests could be made in the future.
