Dennis Edward Murphy
Dennis Edward Murphy passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida on February 16, 2023 at the age of 70.
Mr. Murphy was born on February 19, 1952, in Newport News, Virginia, to the late James Stanley Murphy, Jr., and Dorothy Mutter Murphy. At an early age, his family moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where he grew up and graduated from Okaloosa Walton Junior College. In 1974, he married Maru Youmans of Crestview, Florida, and joined the United States Navy.
After serving in the Navy for twenty years, he retired to Opp, Alabama, with his wife and children. Mr. Murphy was a lifelong learner, with a wide and varied range of interests and passions, including travel, cooking, languages, history, photography, and animal husbandry.
He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Maru Murphy; his sons Brian A. Murphy and Aaron R. Murphy; his daughter and son-in-law Jennipher C. and Steven Whitcomb; brothers and sisters-in-law Jim and Linda Murphy, and Michael and Linda Murphy; sister and brother-in-law Sue and Mike Haas; aunts Kathy Murphy, Anne Kovall, and Marilyn Mutter; step-mother-in-law Wynene Youmans; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Donna Youmans, and Renée and Larry Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on February 18, 2023, at the First Baptist Church’s old Fellowship Hall. He will be buried in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, with his parents
