Guy Edward “Buddy” Moman, Jr.

Guy Edward “Buddy” Moman, Jr. of Tuscaloosa, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023 at the age of 81. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 17, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa with Dr. Clinton Hubbard, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

Buddy was born on September 2, 1941 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Guy Edward Moman, Sr. and Helen Levenia Malone Moman. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Peggy Levenia Moman.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Elizabeth McAliley Moman, his children, Jennifer Lee Moman Voss and David Edward Moman (Cherie), and his grandchildren, Alexandra Elizabeth Voss, Zachary Malone Voss, Wesley Edward Moman, Clark Fleming Moman, and Davis Guy Moman. He is also survived by numerous other beloved family members and friends.

Buddy grew up in Tuscaloosa and graduated from The University of Alabama where he was a member of the Million Dollar Band. He entered business with his father in 1963 as distributor of periodicals and books in Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee, and was the CEO of GEMCO Corporation at the time of his retirement in 1996. In the periodical industry, he served as Vice President of Atlantic Coastal Independent Distribution Association and Chairman of the Council for Periodical Distributors Associations.

Buddy was an active member of the Tuscaloosa community, serving on many boards and committees. He served as Chairman of the Black Warrior Council, Boy Scouts of America and was inducted into the Boy Scouts Circle of Honor in 2016. Buddy also served as Chairman of the DCH Foundation, as a Director of Regions Bank, and as Vice Chairman of the City of Tuscaloosa Airport Advisory Committee. He was a member of the Family Counseling Service Board, Treasurer of the West Alabama Rehabilitation Center Board, Chairman of the Tuscaloosa Academy Board, and a board member of the YMCA. Buddy was a member of the University of Alabama Executives Society, Chairman of Tuscaloosa Solid Waste Authority, and President of the Exchange Club of Tuscaloosa. He was also a board member of the Rotary Club and a member of the United Way Alexis de Tocqueville Society.

Buddy enjoyed spending time with family, building and flying his full-sized and model airplanes, spending time with his friends at the airport, and boating.

Buddy’s grandsons, Zachary Malone Voss, Wesley Edward Moman, Clark Fleming Moman, and Davis Guy Moman will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Don McAliley, Franklin McAliley, and Connie McAliley Chartier.

The family would like to thank the amazing women who gave such great love and support as caregivers to Buddy over the last year of his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa.
