Opp murder suspect apprehended in Arizona

This morning, Joseph Wayne Christopher (age 40) of Mobile, Alabama was apprehended by the Mesa Police Department in Maricopa County, Arizona, on a warrant for Murder in connection with the tragic death of Kelvin Burks (age 41) of Opp, Alabama. The Opp Police Department Criminal Investigation Division secured a murder warrant for Joseph Christopher on October 25, 2023, following a thorough investigation into the incident.

The Opp Police Department, committed to bringing justice to the community, sought the assistance of the US Marshals Service – Fugitive Task Force after discovering that Christopher had fled the State of Alabama and was living in Arizona. The collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies across state lines led to the successful apprehension of the suspect.

The incident in question dates back to March 04, 2023, when the Opp Police Department responded to a distress call around 12:55 PM. Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2300 Block of West Cummings Avenue regarding a possible deceased male. Upon arrival, officers discovered Kelvin Burks, 41, of Opp, Alabama, lifeless in the kitchen area of the residence.

Criminal Investigators were immediately summoned to the scene to conduct a thorough examination, and their diligent efforts eventually led to the identification of Joseph Wayne Christopher as a suspect in this heinous crime.
