A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 11:52 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, has claimed the life of an Enterprise man.
Jesse Duran Howell, 40, was fatally injured when the 2021 Polaris RZR all-terrain vehicle (ATV) he was operating left the roadway and overturned. Neither Howell nor Deja Whitney Mathis, 33, of Daleville, who was a passenger, were using a seat belt at the time of the crash. As a result, both were ejected from the ATV.
Howell was pronounced dead at the scene, and Mathis was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. The crash occurred on Alabama 85, approximately half a mile north of Bellwood, in Geneva County.
Nothing further is available as troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
